CLUB HISTORY

Stars United was founded in 2004 to offer players from Western Pennsylvania an opportunity to play a higher level of youth soccer. The club was founded to develop talented players in the area, and strives to place these players with knowledgeable coaches.  The vision of the club is to prepare our young players how to play soccer both technically and tactically, in a safe and constructive environment while participating at the highest level of youth competition available.

All our teams participate in PA West's Classic League, and some register as guest teams in the PPA league for additional competition.  Stars United is based in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania just 20 miles north of Pittsburgh but is open to all talented players, irrespective of where they live.  Stars United regularly competes in premier level tournaments in the northeast region.  The club encourages players to go beyond cup soccer by getting involved in ODP, excelling in high school soccer and onto the collegiate level.

Stars United is led by Director of Coaching Mark Perry who brings over 20 years of coaching experience.  He is on the coaching staff of the PA West Olympic Development Program (ODP), holds a USSF ‘C’ coaching license, and has been a successful WPIAL high school varsity coach during his career.  Coach Perry is the current head coach of the Center High School Boys program and was head coach of Fox Chapel High School boys program for 15 years.  He is well-known and well-respected in the region and will attract more quality coaches to the program.

The current Stars United coaching staff includes highly qualified coaches, several of whom distinguished themselves at the division I collegiate level, All-American honors or other accolades and have extensive experience coaching in Western Pennsylvania. Stars United coaching philosophy has a strong emphasis on player development.  Our focus is on quality rather than quantity of teams.  The experienced coaching staff is dedicated to ensuring that Stars players develop individual skills and understanding of the game, in an enjoyable format.  Players are positively encouraged to participate in the game in a fair and competitive manner.

Stars United teams currently practice and play at North Boundary Park in Cranberry Twp. on three quality grass soccer fields.  In 2009, Graham Park in Cranberry will have four full-size soccer fields and two smaller-scale fields for academy level games.  Team winter training is at Tri County Indoor Soccer Arena.

One of the strengths of Stars United is the involvement of so many soccer-knowledgeable people.  When our club staff and board began to investigate and discuss our future direction, we realize that there are several high quality options for our program.  There are three principles you can count on from Stars United Soccer Club: decisions will be made by soccer people – Mark Perry and our staff; the Board will continue to be efficient; and you can expect that your player will be trained by the best and compete in a league chosen to stretch his or her abilities.

Our goal is not to look, act or talk like “the best”, our goal is to BE the best select soccer program in the area!

Under the direction of then-President Bob MacZura, the Seneca Valley Soccer Association embarked on a program in 2002 to offer additional skills training to the in-house program from qualified coaches in addition to their regular team practice.  The in-house age groups were also split into a Division 1 and Division 2 format so that players would have the opportunity to play with and compete against similar skilled players.

In 2004, SVSA entered a boys select U13 team in the PA West Classic Division as part of the comprehensive plan to maximize player development.  As the training of younger players began to show results, plans were set in motion to create an independent club, Stars United, to provide a place for the advanced players to play at the highest level in the area.

Stars United applied to PA West and were accepted as a "Classic Club" July of 2006.
